Why Volunteer?....
Instead of considering volunteering as something you do for people who are not as fortunate as yourself, begin to think of it as an exchange. Consider that most people find themselves in need at some point in their lives. So today you may be the person with the ability to help, but tomorrow you may be the recipient of someone else's volunteer effort. (Susan J. Ellis)
Making a Difference
A woman was walking along a beach filled with starfish.
As she walked, she would stoop down, pick one up at random, and throw it back into the ocean. A man came upon her and asked why she was bothering with throwing some back when there were so many - how could it possibly make a difference? She picked up another starfish, threw it back into the ocean, and said, "It made a difference to that one." (Author Unknown)
Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take with you nothing that you have received — only what you have given. ( St. Francis of Assisi) How wonderful that no one need wait a single moment to improve the world. ( Anne Frank) |

MORNING HOSTS: Morning hosts work from 6am to 8am. They set up for breakfast and they also distribute sack lunches to people on their way out. Two morning hosts are needed each day. The patrol helps maintain a peaceful environment and makes sure the shelter rules are followed. The patrol notifies the guards of anything that is out of the ordinary. The patrol volunteers are given an orange vest and flashlights. Because they are working outside, it is recommended that the safety patrol dresses warm and brings an umbrella if it is raining. Two safety patrol volunteers are needed each night.
DINNER: Any person, group, family or restaurant can volunteer to prepare and bring dinner for 40 people. The meals can be heated in the microwave at the shelter. One volunteer is needed each night.
